Documented our haulout and addressing the bottom issues after purchase. We decided to have the yard take it down all the way and do whatever repairs were needed. Luckily only 2 minor repairs that added less than $500 to the final bill. We also did the cutlass bearing, stuffing box repair, main engine sea cock replacement, main engine sea water hose replacement and a few other small items. We went to Pitman's Yacht Services in Tarpon Springs. I would recommend them. It was a high volume yard that did not mess around. Communication was decent and the bill had no surprises.

We are eliminating our honey do list one by one. Although its hard to pay someone else when I am about 90% DIY. So far the DIY stuff- Cushions made, engine/oil/coolant/ raw water gone through, generator repaired and functional, fuel system cleaned, bilge pumps/dry bilge installed and working good, New AC installed, new fridge installed, complete bottom job done etc. Now down to mainly cosmetics and some electronics such as new autopilot and maybe radar. Next up is fix some leaks, minor glass repairs, paint the exterior and brightwork. The goal is to be ready to cruise in about 6 months. I am ready to cruise...but I have to say I get nearly as much enjoyment working on the boat. I have to be fixing something at all times...lol. A boat like this really keeps me busy. Although we did not do the bottom ourselves this time around I have done every other item listed and then some. Any one else find enjoyment and actual pleasure from repairing systems to their proper function? All I want to do these days is work on the boat. At some point I will have to actually put the tools down though and use all these systems as one for its intended purpose:lol:

yea it's my first haul out and I had a little project creep too. supposed to be 2K but ending up around 5K and I need to do a full strip on the bottom next time. But the rotten bulkhead gone and hopefully leak is gone. buying a used dingy didn't help the budget ether. nice video.

Congrats on your new boat. Good excuse to get rid of all that extra money.

Lol...you got that right. Not only does the boat consume money...but now I have an excuse to buy more tools...lol.

I'm with you. I really get satisfaction from working on the boat. Something about making things work really well. I love using it, too. But it gives me pleasure to have everything in tip top shape.

We've owned an airplane in the past, and a helicopter as well. Those taught me about care and precision and the reward of working in machines.

I'm a pretty happy camper generally, but If I could retire today and just work on my boat I'd be an even happier one.

My wife says that I never met a tool that I didn’t need. She may be right.

Funny...I have been working in either helicopters or aircraft for about 35 years. That is mx on a different level.
