Morning all.
I am looking to install a camera system. Just though I should share.

I am looking to accomplish Security ,Recording, monitoring , and situational awareness.

I am going to use Iris camera management system. This Is designed to work with the Garmin one helm system. Once installed i can use the Garmin to view any camera at any Garmin screen. This is a cool system. Monitors and records 24/7. The ability to do off site viewing n real time, even manipulating ptz cameras if equipped.

Right now I am blind driving , especially from the PH. I cannot see the rear and to the sides of the boat. Docking is even worse. Cannot dock without a minimum of 1 extra set of eyes on the radio.

I tried the Garmin wireless cameras. They are terrible. They have a huge lag and are unreliable picture. Constantly freezes, goes into fast speed. They are totally useless for docking.

They’ve got some really nice products on the website. Some of the cameras and housings look very high quality.
I love that rotating bezel controller.

We went through three stages on Fintry (photo to the left). The first was installing a concave mirror forward of the deckhouse on the port rail. That worked OK-- showed me how far to the dock. Although the mirrors are made for land use -- try your auto parts store -- it's still OK 20 years later

The second was adding cameras which plugged into the Furuno MFDBB -- one showing the port end of the swim platform so we didn't back into it and the other looking down on the port side. Worked well, a little better than the mirror.

Third was to buy Eartech Ultralite headsets, so whichever of us was driving could talk to the one that was deckhand. The deckhand can call distances continuously, so the driver can concentrate on driving rather than having to glance at the screen. Also allows the driver to pass instructions for "helpers" on the dock through the deckhand rather than shouting at them. We ultimately bought another two headsets so that everyone handling lines while locking could communicate (we did 59 locks in Fintry) - she displaces 350,000 pounds, so it's good to get it right the first time. Highly recommended.

Everything is on order.
Alot of the wires are ran.
24port poe gig switch is in and being installed.
OOH lots of pretty blue wires. LOL
Ill keep you updated.

I am having trouble with making my ethernet cables. What do you know. The "cheap" tool kit I bought is not punching the 3 center pins in all the way. Bought a new Klien unit and resolved the problem. Found out none of the pins were fully crimping with the "cheap" tool. My cable making is all better now. LOL

Still waiting on the system.
POE netgeare 24 ethernet POE switch installed, electric for it, Most of the wires are close to there destinations.

OOOH Baby the camera system showed up this week. Really nice stuff. Ill try to get some good pics this weekend.
I got a diagnosis tool It puts power to the camera and you can view the camera on the screen. Fully mobile. I bought it so i can see my view of the camera without cutting or drilling anything. I can pick my spot first instead of guessing.

Getting a crash course on ip addressing and networking . Not my forte, always seamed crazy foreign to me. Anyway having problems getting on line with the system. I did figure something out. Thought i would share about ip addressing and networking .

This is what i call ip addressing for dummies like me.

Think of an Ip address like a phone number. 215-757-0881 ( my office phone line) is the network you are on and you can leave me a message at ext 125. The address of the computer/ camera /device on the network

Well an ip address is the same! xxx.xxx.xxx is the phone number and the last .xxx is the extension. All computers, cameras, router etc need to be on the same network. the first three sets of numbers xxx.xxx.xxx. The last three are the extension .xxx The only stipulation that each group of numbers can only be from 0-225. Then something about octuplets. I guess the octopuses under the boat have something to say.

I canot get on line since i actually have 2 networks on the boat. 196.168.0.0 the internet, router, computers, garmins, TVs Victron, maretron syst and batteries. The new camera system is on 196.168.1.0 .

I have to change the cameras to the 196.168.0.0 network and then address the last 3 numbers from there.

Fyi it only took me 1.5 days to figure out. LOL
.

Octet

The reason each number can only reach up to 255 is that each of the numbers is really an eight digit binary number (sometimes called an octet). In an octet, the number zero would be 00000000, while the number 255 would be 11111111, the maximum number the octet can reach. That IP address we mentioned before (192.168.1.34) in binary would look like this: 11000000.10101000.00000001.00100010.

Ahh binary code. Takes me back to the collage days. A lifetime ago! Crazy if you think about it. Everything on a computer is a 0 or 1 that's it. Everything we do and see on a computer is broken down and sent via 1 and 0.
