Charging 4th Gen iPad from 12 VDC source?

I have a USB charging receptacle, that I installed a couple of years ago to replace the "cigarette lighter" receptacle. It worked well for our iPads and iPhones. I just purchased a new 4th gen iPad Pro, 11". It uses a Type C connection for charging. I tried to use the use the USB receptacle above and while the iPad indicator says it's charging, it isn't. I suspect it requires a higher charging voltage. Any thoughts or experience on this?

I had a similar issue with my iPad however, my iPad charges just fine now with new one that supports USB C charging I bought from Walmart online.
