In the process of wiring my windlass and have not decided if I want a dedicated battery or use the start battery. For those of you* with dedicated windlass batteries how do you charge them?*

I don't have a dedicated windlass battery but you could easily use a battery combiner to keep it and your starting or house batteries charged.

The windlass batt is simply part of the start batt system, that is hooked with good sized wire at least 02, ,
so it is charged when the engine is on, and is helped while working by engine voltage.

The concept is the large close windlass batt will be big enough to give the windlass great voltage , even tho the main batt set and charging juice is many many feet away.

I have a separate battery installed forward that operates either the thruster or the windlass... hopefully never need both at once. It's charged from the same charger as the house batts. As FF says, having the very short run to the windlass and thruster is important.
