Cool guy. Got a chance to hear him speak something like 35 years ago. Have a signed copy of his autobiography.

I’m still not sure I believe this. I really didn’t think you could kill Chuck Yeager.

The Angels needed flying lessons.

Heard him speak at Oshkosh, maybe 20-25 years ago. Amazing WW2 stories. He was on the stage with his WW2 friend Bud Anderson and they just told stories and answered questions. What impressed me the most is he seemed like a good old guy not trying to impress anyone or to be something he's not.
...and the stories! Better than any Tom Clancy movie!
Inspired me to go out and buy his book, Yeager. Wow, and the real shocker was that these stories weren't fiction! To that point I'd read lots of test books, for school or for hobbies like SCUBA or flying...but I never got into reading fiction or anything else. That experience opened me up to reading...and now I've read hundreds..mostly memoirs and autobiographies. I thank Yeager for that.
