May by June prices should level off, level off not drop,I should have filled the boat when it was 2.70 a gallon,it’s 3.30 a gallon now and topping of my tanks tomorrow should be able to squeeze 200 gallons in her,but refuse to pay over 4.00 which is usually the summer price around here,at some of the more expensive fuel pumps it gets up to 4.50 a gallon, what are the usual prices in your areas for diesel

I wish it was $3.30 a gallon here. It’s $1.89/litre Cdn at gas stations. Nasty! Not sure what it is at the dock, but it typically is close to land prices. I should have filled in August.

Level off? Why would that happen? Last season our marina gas was $4.50/gallon. Won't surprise me by the time the boat is launched it'll be $6.00 or more. Auto gas stations are $3.49 lately and we're one of the lower states because of the boondoggle ethanol/corn-growers subsidies. Let's see, 300 gallon boat tank x $6.00 = $1800 to fill the tank. Lovely.

Tomorrow supposed to be almost 60 degrees here, with light winds,if any day to make a winter fuel run it’s gonna be tomorrow,I got about a 20 mile round trip,Broadbill holds 500 gallons, currently close to 300 gallons on board, have a couple big trips planned this summer, and price will not be any cheaper than it is now

World-wide demand for oil is up. I don't see prices coming down anytime soon as demand is increasing not decreasing. Prices are also continuing to climb over the concern that Russia might invade Ukraine soon, and the fall-out that might have on supply.

I just filled-up my cars. Pretty sure gas will have a decent jump in the next few days due to Russia/Ukraine situation

Lostsailor - if I were in your shoes, I would stuff all the diesel into your boat you can and pay whatever the price is tomorrow. Broadly speaking there are three scenarios over net 3-months: price goes down, price stays same, price goes up. I'd wager 80-20 on the "Up" scenario.

Good luck - good to see some thaw up there. Been chilly here in Florida too - barely into the 70's today. Brrr..... (sorry, couldn't resist:))

As fuel prices go up I’m suprised more people don’t start fueling up at commercial docks or fuel flats. Marine diesel does not have road tax, which makes it MUCH cheaper (like 30-40% cheaper) for marinas to buy than fuel at gas stations. Fuel prices at marinas are as expensive as they are because there is a cost to convince that boat owners have allowed them to abuse, because of either ignorance of tax laws or they have enough money they just don’t care. Most commercial fueling places do have minimum requirement before they will fuel you though usually between 200-500 gallon minimums though. Pretty much if it’s red and you are paying at or above gas station prices you are getting ripped off royally and that’s your own fault.

We keep a "fuel" account. Basically $8k. This year the account has been bumped up to $13k. When I take on 400 gallons, I will just have to look at the ground and sigh.....Like others fuel is the expensive part of the cruise.

If you are going to play you have to pay.

I fuel up at a commercial dock, every commercial fishing boat in Gloucester uses the same place,it’s actually a fuel barge, some of the bigger steel hull commercial draggers and offshore lobster boats have the barge tie up to their boats right in the slip and fuel them up,they have different price ranges also such as cash price over 200,over 500,and over 1000

Unfortunately us gas burners have no such option. And in some areas commercial fuel docks don't necessarily exist nearby. Many marinas won't allow trucking in fuel either.

The gas burning charter guys locally carry in their own fuel from cheaper local land stations. The marina doesn't allow it for others though.

Based on our usual spread from land prices, I expect to see $4.50 - $5.00 at the local fuel dock this summer for gas. Other places in our cruising grounds (but not close enough to go just for fuel) will probably be 50 or 60 cents cheaper.

After putting back in the fuel we stored in drums last year we'll still need another 340 gallons to fill the tanks. Had to end the season with empty tanks so I could move them to replace a water tank. I'm dreading the prices this year...

It has gotten rather high down here at 3.97 KYD, US Gallon.
