I forgot to add that right in the manuals for the 555 and similarly controlled engines that if the fuel tanks are arranged so the fuel level is above the PT pump fuel can leak into the engine flooding a cylinder.
Yes, it is right in the trouble shooting section written by Cummins. This manual was aimed at the trucking industry and it right in the manual.
The truckers were much more likely to flood when they parked nose down on a hill or a rise. But it can still happen to our boat,engines
 
I’m having trouble getting hold of an injector push rod.
Are they different to the valve push rods ?
 
Sorry , even though I own a V555 and redid the injectors a few years ago I cannot tell you if the injector and valve pushrods are different. I was very carefull to keep cylinders parts separate and I don't remember if I separated the valve and injector push rods.
