Hey Trawler fans! I had the good fortune to go aboard the Desert Duck while I was in Wrangell AK. The broker gave me a tour and let me have a good look. The build quality is excellent and the quality of equipment is high end. If you want a Diesel Duck but don’t have a lot of cash, this is the chance of a lifetime.
Yes, it is wood. Wood core with epoxy and glass. And way overbuilt. I look at this boat as a 25 year boat that will give you a world traveler for 20 to 25 years then May be done. But, where else can you get a new 50’ boat built for and proven for open sea use for the $120k asking price?
Take a look. I would be glad to tell you what I saw. It was a nice visit. My wife did not like it. Why? It’s a Diesel Duck. The design has small windows and is almost a motor sailer without the sails. She wants big windows. I want a happy family and we are a team so we passed.
