While replacing the exhaust manifold gasket on my NL Generator I found slight pitting on the expansion tank surface between the expansion tank and the head.
I found deeper pitting on the expansion tank where the elbow is attached. I think the new elbow will seal with the new gasket, but may use a Permatex Sealant to ensure a good seal.
I am more concerned with the head-expansion tank interface because the new gasket is made of very thin stainless steel. Alas, I find mixed recommendations on the web regarding the use of sealant on metal exhaust manifold gaskets.
Should I use a sealant on both sides of the gasket? What would you recommend?
