Well the first named storm of the season is here early. Tropical storm Arthur is getting ready to dump some rain and wind on the Outer Banks of NC.

Left Mile Hammock next to Camp Lejeun this morning around 6 AM. Noticed the wind had picked up by 9 AM. Was talking to a buddy of mine on the phone who asked me how close I was to the Tropical storm. :ermm: So I'm settled into Green's Creek anchorage ready for some wind and rain. It's amazing how out of touch you can get when cruising.

Hope everybody else in the area has taken proper precautions.

Just what's needed right now, an early storm on top of all the other current issues!
Good luck and hope all goes well for you.

Don't forget the "Murder Hornets"! First found last year in Nanaimo and now in NW Wa state! Bloody awful buggers they are.

Greetings,
2020 storm forecast/predictions (about a month ago). https://news.yahoo.com/accuweathers-2020-atlantic-hurricane-season-155357212.html

From the above article: "It's going to be an above-normal season,"

Edit: Mr. 78. Ah yes. The murder hornets. As I mentioned in another post, meteorites, earthquakes (and resulting tsunami), someone else added volcanoes, global warming/cooling...fires, floods, drought.

Watch your butt. My Rocna drug twice through that bottom in Greens Creek in thunderstorms! I was anchored pretty much on top of the AC marker. That bottom is SOFT.

Greetings,
Mr. 78. Yes they have. They've GOT to be right at least one of these times...

Where's the Oracle at Delphi when you need her?

And they will be... one of these times. In the last 10 years one year there were 12 hurricanes with 10 being considered a "normal" year for hurricanes. The other 9 were 10 or under, some well under.
Unfortunately so much of the predictions made for this and many other things, global warming, climate change, Covid spread, Covid deaths etc.... is all based on computer models which are only as valid as the info fed into them. Who puts the info in the computers? People.

"The 2019 Atlantic hurricane season was the fourth consecutive year of above-average and damaging seasons dating back to 2016. It is tied with 1969 as the fourth-most active Atlantic hurricane season on record in terms of named storms,[nb 1] with 18 named storms and 20 tropical cyclones in total, although many were weak and short-lived, especially towards the end of the season."

I'll definitely keep track of it, but have done well here in the past with strong winds. My Rocna is oversized and I have 10:1 scope out.

I’m sitting in my motorhome on Ocracoke right now waiting for the storm. We’re supposed to be on the 1:00pm ferry to cedar island tomorrow. Then down the coast to Wilmington to check out another boat for sale. I thought we had a rule against these kinds of storms before summer. I guess Arthur didn’t get the memo.

Predictions now are on overall tropical energy.... also named storms...not just hurricanes.

Probably why the "newsworthy" article.

Here on the west coast, along the Pacific, we have surf. Those on the east coast facing the Atlantic and its seas and gulfs. have hurricanes, but usually without the west-coast earthquakes.

I'm glad I put those extra lines out, and tied down the deck chairs.

It looks like Arthur wants to try again by making a big loop. Watch out CD!
