Ford Lehman 120 temp sending units

Has anyone replaced the sending units without removing the coolant expansion tank? The port side unit is broken and needs to be replaced. It looks awfully tough without removing the expansion tank but the team at American diesel said it can be replaced without removing the tank.

Mr. C. It possibly can BUT from your picture, removal of the tank will allow you to replace the hose (left side of picture) and the gasket for the tank, both of which appear to be seeping slightly. Also a good excuse to clean up the tank and give it a fresh coat of shiny red paint. MY $.02 (CF).

Is your concern that there is not enough height to unthread the sending unit?
As far as the paint, Rustoleum Regal Red is almost a perfect match.

Thanks RT I do have a complete set of hoses on order.

Yes it, just looks tight to try to get them unthreaded, but once I get the new one I'll check it out.
