Refit of my Willard 36 is heading into final details. I'm trying to figure out best option for freeing ports, preferably something with a gate-door to prevent back-wash of water onto the decks. The Willard 36 is fiberglass, with a hull-liner where the freeing ports go, and a space of about 4-inches between the exterior hull and the liner.

Any thoughts on off-the-shelf items, or perhaps cool design?

Thanks in advance - Peter

How big are they?

Current are small - 6"W x 4"H ovals. Would like to enlarge to 8"W or more. The aft deck on my boat is large, though well protected. It's also within about 8-inches of the waterline or so, so current ports scoop water when the boat rocks in a seaway. Many years ago, I made covers on the outside of the hull using a fiberglass 'U-Clamp' and a quarter section of a small fender. They work okay to keep water from entering, but restrict exit somewhat. See attached before/after pictures.
