‘84 Uniflite aft cabin gasser, 3 tanks with non-functional fuel gauges. The gauges themselves respond so I think they’re ok functionally which leaves me suspecting either the wiring or the probe. Clearance above the two 200gal saddle tanks is <6”.

In your accumulated experience, is it more likely that the wiring is the issue or the probe? If the probe, any ideas how to replace with such little clearance?

Are your tanks under the side decks in the engine room?

I'd check the probes with a multimeter before deciding to replace them, if they vary resistance with level, then it should be the wiring that is faulty. Most senders are variable between 33-240 ohms, although some manufacturers change that up a bit.

On my 77 there is quite a bit of wiring including a tank selector switch.
