Memorial Day weekend, we left our slip headed to our club’s out station on Bainbridge Island. In the marina fairway, about 8 minutes from our slip, the port engine shut down….followed by the starboard engine!
Dropped the hook, and found that both Racor seps were full of water. A quick diagnosis found that our port tank fill cap had been loosened and then replaced- but not tightened down so the O-ring made contact. (I suspect the pump out guys, but have no proof).
Got all filters and seps cleared, primed the engine and hit the engines back online.
Today, West Coast Tanks here in Seattle came out, cut access holes, drained the and cleaned the tanks, are in the process of lining the tanks prior to refilling. Great guys- on time and professional.
Good peace of mind for a 1989 vessel- I feel we dodged a major bullet, as the techs found some pinholes in the lower trough of both tanks.
