I installed a Garmin autopilot. MFD, and radar all Garmin and all worked well for two years. Now I get an error regarding autopilot lost gps speed. Boat will not follow course wanders. I believe this is because of speed loss.. I do see gps speed on mfd . My bet it has an internal antenna and not good enough for autopilot. I installed another external antenna. For ais and autopilot but don’t were connect to autopilot. I am stumped. A lot makes no since. Also changed iPad and did updates. Any thoughts?

The Garmin course computer and autopilot do not have their own gps. They have a magnetic compass inside the course computer but that is only for heading data.

The newer Garmin updates allow you to leverage GPS COG over magnetic and makes a tremendous difference on heading line and autopilot

That said, I would start by updating all of the Garmin software either via the Active Captain app or creating an update SD card.

After you update the software, go into setting on the MFD and make sure you have the right sensors selected as your primary source

Thanks for the help. I did solve the issue. It was me. When i mounted the mfd back into the boat after winter storage, I plugged the nema 2000 cable into the wrong port. Both ports use a 5 pin connector. Correct connection and updated software, autopilot works perfectly. Now, on to the genset. Good thing I enjoy problems. Lol
