Heading out on The Great Loop soon and need to pick and obtain a secondary anchor. We have quite a bit of sailing experience, mainly along the gulf coast, and have always had success with a Danforth as a primary, so I’m leaning that way a less someone here has what you think is a better idea? I know no anchor is ideal for all bottom types.

Generally a large new gen anchor works well as a primary, at it'll work in the widest range of conditions. A big Danforth or fortress is a good second anchor. They're good in soft mud where most others struggle and have a ton of straight line holding power (which is useful on a second anchor). They don't handle direction changes well in many bottoms, which makes them unsuitable as a primary in my eyes.

I have a brand new Fortress FX37 that is just stored in my shed. PM me if you are interested.
