Going to look at a 1985 Kha-Shing next week

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.

Make sure you know what make the engines are. Many of them are Volvo. You don’t want to invest in Volvo with out knowing how to get parts and service in your location.

Do a forum search on Kha shing. There are several worth wile discussions already taking place.

After that it is just another boat and all boats have boat issues, this is why we survey them.

Beware of teak decks, soft flooring/decks, and soft stringers. I'm not saying not to buy the boat but early Taiwanese trawlers sometimes display these issues.

Funny, the seller is advertising the teak deck as a plus saying " a cored deck and above the water line hull meaning no core rot which is common on teak decked boats. " Does this sound right?

Welcome aboard. Most boats have cored decks to save weight and make the deck stronger. But with teak decks if they are screwed down the screw holes can be a source for water intrusion into the core. Then you may have to rip the teak off and cut the deck open to replace the wet rotten core. If you have someone do the work it is very expensive. If you are good at DIY you can do it yourself but it is hard work, not too technical but hard work.
