Not really, but a long awaited announcement on Hatteras' future is finally here and Johnny Morris is the winner, but so is Hatteras. Now you have a true boating fan with $4 billion deep pockets who is already the largest boat builder in the country in charge. Great move for all involved.

Probably good for Hatteras that they can't sell the boats at the local Bass Pro shops!

I read on the other forums about a lot of people who are very happy with their boats, but pretty much universally hate the boat service at Bass Pro Shops. Folks seem much happier with service when they buy the same boat from their local boat dealer.

I don't bring my lawnmower to Home Depot for service, or the used car I bought on some guys lawn back to him either. I think this is the essence of caveat emptor. One should be making these assumptions/deductions and acting accordingly.

In other words, if you don't do it yourself or have a mechanic, consider buying from establishments that also have the support levels that you expect or require.

I'll keep my 1983 Hatteras and be happy.

The mechanic on site here works plenty good for what I can't fix myself.

That is, until I win the lottery and upgrade to the fabled Nordhavn billion-dollar boat club.

I have found most boat dealers to provide service anywhere from non-existent to horrendous . I have yet to be happy with any boat dealers service.

Having worked for and around a few marinas....slip holders get great to crappy service depending on how the workers view the boater.

I get it, some are great people and some are real jerks...thus how they get treated.

But I agree a lot of marinas just have such marginal help...all customers get screwed....

Been there done that..... on both ends of the service ticket.

Im not talking about marinas or boatyards. Strictly boat dealers.

Out east they are often the same...but I bet my point still carries like many businesses.

And often the non on the water boat dealers in the east are way better at service than the colocated marina/dealer operations.

I see a big disconnect between the Hargrave Hatts of the '70's and '80's and the newer boats. I'm not saying that they lost their way, but I wouldn't argue with someone who did.

There's just something to be said about those old full mahogany interiors, too. That's what ended up selling me on the older Hatteras, and the proven track record of the time.
