Horizon windlass 1500 on Mainship 430

Hello all! We are continuing our mini refit and need to get new chain. I have been able to use measurements to confirm. We have a 1500 but cannot locate a serial number to check if it is the 162 or 172 model. There are different chain recommendations. Also will try to post the link to the user manual below to aid anyone else with this obsolete windlass. Thanks.

You need to identify the gypsy. Try to pull the chain away a bit and you should find a number on the gypsy. Not located in the easiest place to see.

Can you measure the diameter of the chain and check for a number on it? Ours was 5/16s chain and was marked G4. If I recall, the serial number on the windless does not tell you what gypsy you have. We have the same windlass and I took the cover off the side this year expecting to see worn out gears and shafts. The inside looked like new. I moved some of the grease around and put it back together. The spring loaded piece that pushes down on the chain against the gypsy was broken and I couldn't find a replacement so I made one out of StarBoard.
