Quick question. Is the LiDAR option on the iPad useful as a boating app?

Jim

I'd say, no. Range is limited and what you can do with it is limited. There are some neat 3D visualization apps, but nothing really practical for anything beyond a parlor trick. I've tried to use it to build a 3D model of small objects for 3D printing, it is too inaccurate to be useful. Maybe somebody else has found a use for it.

You know, I think it would be “way to cool” to have a LiDAR setup atop the mast to “LiDAR-up” an image of an anchorage. Or a shoreline.

TT: are you listening?

I'll whip that up for you, but I promised my wife I'm prefect the transporter beam first. So stand by....

LOL! Rather than "stand" by, I think I'd better "Sit" by! I might be waiting a while!
