Hi All,
my wife and I are looking to buy a well maintained Kadey Krogen, Nordhavn, or Selene in the 40-50 foot range.
We would prefer to buy a boat on the west coast, but would consider transporting from the east coast for the right boat.
We anticipate using a boat primarily in the waters of the San Juan Islands, British Columbia, and Alaska. However, we would like a boat capable of venturing south to Mexico, if we so choose. Therefore, both air conditioning and a diesel heating system are desirable to us, or at least the ability to retrofit them, if needed, and still stay within our budget.
We would rather pay a fair price for a good boat, than a good price for a fair boat. We realize all boats require on-going maintenance and that stuff breaks, but we do not want a project. We want a boat that has been well-maintained, with good equipment, and not neglected.
Our criteria are as follows:
Boat must be in excellent condition – we don’t want a project.
Max budget is $700,000 – less, as in $400,000-$600,000, would be better.
At least two staterooms.
Prefer two heads, but would consider one.
Must have stabilizers.
Must have bow thrusters
Diesel heating system is important – or at least the ability to retrofit one and stay within budget (anticipate mostly cruising in Pacific NW and Alaska).
Air conditioning would be nice - not so much for up north, but might venture south.
Newer is better, but would consider an older boat that has been meticulously maintained and upgraded.
Length of 42' to 48' seems most fitting but might consider other lengths, provided the rest of our criteria was met.
Comfort is paramount - Prefer open salon where we could put two recliner chairs on one side, rather than built-in seating on both sides, but will consider all options.
Solar is desirable, but not essential – we will seek solitude in remote places as much as possible, as opposed to shore power.
A flybridge is highly desirable, but would consider boats without.
We are aware that this is a sellers' market and not the best scenario for us buyers. Therefore, we will try to be patient and wait for a good boat rather than jump at the next average boat that becomes available. That said, we are ready, willing, and able to move forward as soon as the right boat is available.
Thank you for reading this post and for any leads you might provide.
