Luggable (super heavy portable) sewing machine
Sewing Head: Juki LU-562 commercial walking foot, lockstitch sewing machine. It is compound feed with reverse stitch. This machine features a vertical drop in bobbin, up to 8mm, selectable stitch length (approx. 3 stitches per inch), uses the common DP X 17 … 135 X 17 needles, and 6-8mm presser foot lift. The working area under the head is 10” long X 5” high. The oiling system is manual through oil holes and wicks. No oil pan like many commercial machines. It has a manual on CD for adjustment and parts diagrams.
Drive System: One of my cold weather projects was to make up a commercial industrial sewing machine drive that eliminated the large table and under mount drive system. The main objective was to allow me to take a commercial sewing machine to the work, hence the luggable design. (luggable because the head, alone, is over 80 lbs) You can set this sewing machine on a pick nick table or on a pontoon boat for mobile repair. Photos show it on my kitchen table. The motor mounts to the machine head. Think of it as a super sized home sewing machine configuration. The drive system is comprised of a permanent magnet DC motor, a SCR motor controller, and a SSC commercial foot speed control. The DC SCR drives are superior to the AC servo with wider speed ranges and greater low speed torque. This sewing machine has a custom machined 72 tooth timing belt pulley mounted on a large hand wheel, driven by a 12 tooth motor pulley. Based upon the 6:1 reduction ratio, stitching speed is as slow as 1 stitch per second or up to 600 per minute. Material penetration and speed control is incredible. Punch through 10 layers of Sunbrella or 4 layers of dense nylon webbing with ease. The motor mounts to the sewing head with 2 bolts … one at the bottom securing the motor hinge plate and one at the top for the belt tension arm. Easy removal for transport or storage. The drive motor is easy to align … just bolt it in place. The DC SCR controller is powered by the standard 115V AC wall plug. The foot control and motor have plug in connectors to the SCR controller. No chance of making wrong connections. Look through the photos for more details.
As a note: Sailrite used to sell an under table mounted DC SCR V belt drive for $599. Their servo motor is now cheaper but does not make for a luggable system. It requires the commercial table!!
Sale includes: Juki walking foot sewing head, DC motor, SCR motor drive controller, foot speed control, all necessary plug & play connecting cables, machine manual, extra bobbins and needles. My sewing projects are now done. If I have new projects, I will build a similar replacement luggable machine.
The sewing machine head will be shipped in a plywood, cushioned box. The motor, controller, and foot control, and accessories will be shipped separately. Shipment to lower 48 only due to past shipping / delivery issues. The total shipping weight will be around 110 lbs. $1500 + shipping. PM if interested.
