Newbie - Mainship

My brother and I are poised to buy a Mainship 40, to do the Loop.
We are optimistic we'll be successful in negotiations. The boat is currently in Tampa. We'd like to take a couple shakedown cruises in her, then try to head N, likely after the hurricane season.
We are also trying to figure the best way to suspend our dinghy so we can use the swim platform.

Appreciate any comments/suggestions for us.

What is your destination north?

Most people head SOUTH after hurricane season and North BEFORE hurricane season starts again. Most of the north eastern coastal resources close after Columbus Day. It freezes for the winter.
