Oil Change Hose Question

I have owned my MS 390 for almost 2 years. The oil was changed by someone else right after I bought it. I changed it at the one-year mark by sucking it out of the dipstick tube. The boat has these hoses from the engine and the transmission. I am thinking that removing the oil would be easier and better via these hoses than the dipstick tube.

Just want to know if there is anything that I should know before I try it.

I found the fitting that I think we allow me to connect the pump directly to the oil pump hose.

That's how most do it because you have a bigger hose and can pump faster than thru the tube. And you're pumping off the bottom of the pan, so you aren't leaving dirty oil behind.

I have permanent plumbing on my boat. Open a valve, turn on the pump and it's done.

That is how we have done it for years.
You do not show the inside diameters of the hose or that barb attachment, but I think there will be a larger barb that has a larger inside diameter which will keep the ID larger.

Absolutely. That is the way to go.
 
What pump will you use? My boat came with an XchangR system installed with connections to the generator and main engine sump with a selector valve. I disliked the unsatisfactory supplied impeller pump and have changed to a most capable and satisfactory gear pump.
 
The pump I have available to me is the type with the pump mounted on top of a 5-gallon bucket.

If it has the cover plate on the pump end with several screws, it is an impeller pump. My replacement for it is a Marco 164-220-12 gear pump.
 
Like Lepke and others I have a manifold system that is permanently installed and would be a sensible upgrade for you. Mine is permanently connected to both mains, both trannys and both gensets. It is plumbed with gate valves at each hose near the sump. To change oil, just open the applicable gate valve, select the correct hose on the manifold valves and turn on the pump. Easy peasy. Here is a link to a (very expensive) manifold/pump from WM. Not the one I have which is a no-name brand but it will give you an idea of what to shoot for.

On my Port engine I have no choice, I use the dipstick pipe. On my Starboard engine I can use the hose attached to the bottom of the sump. I could also use the dipstick pipe. In fact, this year I did so, as using the sump bottom hose requires a different adapter than the other engine. I get exactly the same amount of oil either way.
