New to me 38' trawler, 1984 Perkins 6-3544M 5100 hrs, becoming more confused regarding this model vs the Range 4 135, seems they are the same? Anyone that could give some clarification, run out of search options, thought it would be easy! lol serial #TW7008U691101K

The 6.3544 is the range 4.

The first TW indicates that it is naturally aspirated vs a TU which is either simply turbo charged or both turbocharged and intercooled, or TX whixh is compensated for use at altitude.

Also, that engine was advertised using SI units as 92kw @ 2800rpm. Thats about 125hp, giving the ~1% difference between metric and US hp.

Also that U means it was made in the UK and the K means it was made in 1983.

Appreciate your reply STB. Other vessels I've owned I've always carried a plethora of spare parts, I want to start to build an inventory for this boat but needed specifics on the model ect. Is there a Perkins "go-to" for parts? ie O rings for the heat exchanger, starter, exhaust manifold gaskets etc......

Welcome from Sidney BC...........:thumb:
I have had this PDF for ever, it shows all the codes for Perkins engine numbers.
Enjoy!
