I am looking at a powerboat after sailing for 55 years. 5 years ago I got a sailing cat. My wife gets seasick, and I thought not heeling might make a difference.
Was the best decision I made! Except for sailing to windward, I loved it as well. Great room. Very little rolling in beam seas as well.
I am looking at fast trawler types of boats and also a few cats. Specifically I am looking at Bene ST and FP 37 or if I hit the lottery, the 40.
I am wondering how much of a difference there is between both of the boats in beam seas. I am looking at doing coastal cruising on the east coast, in FL in the winter ( Also taking it across to the bahamas/ carib) and NE in the summer.
I would think the Cats will roll less. But significantly less? Carib gets 20+ kts all the time with 3-6' seas. I would think at anchor the cat rolls less as well. Not sure if it hunts more.
If anyone has real world experience on these types of boats, would be great to hear it. thanks.
