How to best combat sulphation?
I used to use the monthly auto equalization phase of my solar charger, but it seemed to knock the flooded LA batts about and it used lots of water. I recently renewed the 8D batts. Believing that sulphation occurs in undercharged (especially chronically) batts, I turned off the equalizer phase. My batts always have solar power available and stay charged on the marina. Even without shore power and charger connected, they should be(and appear to be) fully charged every time we go onboard.
I get a surprisingly clear view into the cells of one batt via the filler holes. The plates look good, but are there visible signs of sulphation I`d see if it was happening?

Return them to full charge on a regular basis, where "regular" is once a week or so. The problem is telling when they are really at full charge short of measure the specific gravity of the electrolyte.
