I have a Dickerson diesel stove and was struggling to get it to burn right. After discussing with several of you on posts I ended up taking apart and cleaning the metering valve.

Lit the stove and amazing it burned for over a week 24hr x 7 without an issue.

Then I notice a damp spot on the floor. Turns out that I likely didn't tighten the compression nuts tight enough and there was a slow leak that soaked the wood underneath the stove.

Lots of baking soda now soaking up what it can. Hopefully I don't have to replace the wood. But I am working to get it really dry and clean so I can put a clean cloth under the oil metering valve to see where the leak is coming from.

Here's hoping that its just that simple!

Once you find and stop the link, then thoroughly cleaned that area to remove all the diesel, PureAyre used according to directions will get rid of the diesel odor. Give me a shout when you're ready to use it.

I had the same problem with leaks. I let it dry thoroughly and then varnished over it.
No more smell. And the diesel was the old very smelly stuff or 35 yrs ago.

As far as cloths for tracking where the leak originates I would suggest the Blue Scot paper shop towels. CanadianTire has the best prices I have found They will show drips that another colour, especially white, will not.

Wipe carefully all the fittings. If there is any dampness those towels will likely show it.
