So after two weeks on anchor here is my update on panel performance.

On the 1000watt panels charging a 400amp hour inverter bank of gel batts i consistently got 190 amp hours for the day back in. I use about this amount or slighly less.

On my single 200 watt panel charging the 400 amp hour 12v house nabk i get about 60amp hours back in. This bank is charged by 2pm and just trickles for the afternoon. I have all led lighting and do not need more than about 40 amp hours for the days use

So in 2 weeks i ran the genset about 5 hours. This was for hotwater every few days , dishwashers, vacuum cleaners etc.

All up it went well.

Thanks

Sounds like the system night hold , operating the infrequent items if the inverter is up to the task.

With proper switching your excess 12v or 24v will heat your HW directly.

A resistance heating element works with most any lower voltage.

The heat output wont be high on 12v , but excess energy is nice to use.

Yes i agree.

As it is, the hotwater element is not wired into the inverter circuit. Nor is the 12 volt battery charger for the start bank.

I am actually happy running the gensets as i have to now. I have 2 x 20kw ixentical sets and they need to be used. So even an hour a day would be fine if i had a cloudy day.
