Hello and thanks for Reading
Stranded yet again - in North Myrtle Beach this time - with transmission problems, looking for sources for Paragon parts for a PY-33-AL 2:1.

I know of two places Basic Power Industries in the Carolinas - who sold me a transmission that wasn't assembled properly, and had an aft flange with water damage in such bad shape the transmission burned up in less than 150 hours, and Transmission Marine in Ft Lauderdale, who are good people but have limited supplies of parts.

Yes, I know these transmissions are crap. But as I have a setup where the input and output shafts are at different height I cannot do a swap for a Borg Warner.

Right now my output flange is stripped, and the splines on the output shaft might be damaged, haven't starting taking it apart yet but that seems to be the likely culprit.

Thanks for reading I will have more invested in transmission repairs than the boat is worth in another $10k :)

That stinks Alan, are you going to try to find another rebuilt one, a used one or are you going to rebuild yourself?

Bought a rebuild for $2700. Output flange had water damage, and the keeper has a little tab that should have been bent down into the keyway to stop it from turning. The flange turning generated a ton of heat that eventually burned the transmission up.

As the heat was in the back, in the reduction unit the oil on the stick in the front part was clean.

Had it professionally rebuilt a second time. Marine Transmission out of Ft. Lauderdale didn’t have a new flange so we bought one on eBay. That one shrederated 6 days out of Daytona Beach.

The transmission is fine. It’s the reduction (2:1) that’s blown, as the splines on the shaft are probably toast.

Lots of fun, we were on the ICW, first I thought I snagged a crab pot as there was a scrunch and a horrible squeal and I lost propulsion. Used the current, the bow thruster, and then the anchor to get tied up to a private dock. Donned the snuba gear and dove on the prop, it was clear… and then my heart sank.

I don’t carry enough tools to work on a transmission. Found what appears to be a competent guy, two weeks before he can take it apart and attempt repair, and I have to find parts. Will post part numbers once I get home.

One way car rental on the 4th of July weekend was hopeless so we’re driving a UHaul box truck home tomorrow. With luck we’ll be headed back home in a month - as it’s a boat unit a month to sit on the hard in Myrtle Beach [emoji79] Need to be on the Erie Canal by October - would like to get home sooner.

It’s a PY33AL 2:1 reduction gear name your price folks you can find us through our You Tube channel, our website, or here…. Will drive anywhere to pick up.

If I were you I would start taking it apart starting at the rear. The final drive comes off easy leaving the rest of the transmission in place.
