We are at anchor in Klaskish Basin in the “crook” of the Brooks Peninsula, and noticed slow internet on Starlink. A speed test showed download speeds of 11 mbs and 10 upload. The following message came up: “Mobile-Regional Service: Your Starlink May be deprioritized during periods of heavy Network usage in your area.”

Heavy network usage where? There’s no one around for miles.

While the individual satellite you are linked to may not be experiencing high demand, the earth station it transmits and uploads from maybe experiencing peek demand from other satellites. Then again, Elon may just want you to toggle the $2 per gigabyte switch.

100% of the dishy in your area are trying to use the network. You may be the only one, but still that is 100% heavy usage.
Ted may be more correct. But we need to consider what resources are availabe in areas not heavily populated may tax those resources. Try the $2 GB and let us know if full speed returns.

Jim,
go online to your account and file a complaint with your lat and long describing the issue. The answer may be interesting

Roger! May try that. However I don’t want to trigger the “You are on the water” reprimand!

So I sent the following:

“Mobile Regionsl Service query:

A speed test showed download speeds of 11 mbs and 10 upload and I have received the following alert:

“Mobile-Regional Service: Your Starlink May be deprioritized during periods of heavy Network usage in your area.”

I am at

50 degrees 14.84’ N and 127 degrees 43.76’W. There is no one around for miles.

There are a lot of areas that could be having heavy congestion.

Satellite to your terminal
Satellite to starlink earth station
Starlink earthstation to internet

I am on starlink now and have done a speed test. Not impressive under 100. But I do not notice any lag. What I did find in settings is wifi 2.4 is default and if you want 5.0 you have to toggle the setting to split signal 2.4/5.0 and name the 2.4 differently. Now I have 5.0 turned on. It kept saying move router to more central location.
With device android phone 2 feet from router the connection is orange with 2.4, now with 5.0 green.

More to the point do you really need faster than 10mb/sec speeds.

We managed just fine for 6 years on the water rarely getting speeds like that yet still Maged to stream vid, download movies, Skype etc.

Simi, what you say is correct, it is just to point out that speed that once rivalled cable is now throttled back. So as long as the video does not have a spinning circle then all is good.

I remember dial up, and Compuserve too! We wouldn’t be able to do much video conferencing today with the speeds today. We had a similar problem at Bull Harbour. The “obstructions” check says we are “obstructed” with possible outages every 3 minutes. But the revolving “skull cap” is almost entirely blue with almost no red. So we aren’t obstructed. It’s just poor service.

Well, I for one couldn't be happier.

I have starlink Mobile Priority for $250 a month.

When I am planning on going far from the coast I turn on Mobile Priority "opt in" and IF I have already used up my 50g of priority data this billing cycle then I pay for the offshore data at $2 a gig.

When I return to shore or close I turn off the opt in service and within 15 minutes billing stops and I revery to best effort service.

Compare that to my old KVH service or even the $3 a gig I was paying ATT just 5 years ago and I am a happy guy
