I have removed the icemaker from my Mainship 390 and am planning to replace it with a door. The space I gained is great and with the modern high tech coolers I don't think ice is an issue for us.

If I could find teak plywood I would use that but I am not having much luck. I see peal and stick veneer and might consider that.

Any ideas, suggestions, or sources would be much appreciated.

Call Boulter Plywood in Somerville, Ma. They have all kinds of choices in plywood, hardwood etc for boatbuilding and interiors. They aren't cheap but have a lot of options.. They supply a lot of the custom boatbuilders on the east coast

Do you have quarter sawn slip matched teak veneer? Most eighties trawlers made in Taiwan use this type of two ply veneer. Very hard to source.

Not sure what quarter sawn slip matched is.
I bought a full 4x8 of 1/4 inch, has teak on each side. I cut it up and made some door skins, had them laser engraved with the Egg harbor logo. Added 5-8 coats of varnish and it matched the other stuff on my our 1971 boat perfectly.

Slip Match

Consecutive leaves of veneer are slid or "slipped" across each other and joined side by side, creating a repeating grain pattern across the panel.

Quarter sawing or quartersawing is a woodworking process that produces quarter sawn or quarter-cut boards in the rip cutting of logs into lumber. The resulting lumber can also be called radially-sawn or simply quartered.

Two ply is when one layer is glued to another with the grain at 90 degrees.

Quarter-sawn wood is more stable than plain-sawn. Not only is it less prone to cupping, it also expands and contracts less. Quarter-sawn provides a “quieter” and straighter face grain than plain-sawn

I got some PSA teak veneer on ebay. It was fine and very easy to work with. I was making a door and frame to cover the cabinet where the icemaker was. Now our lithium house bank is in that cabinet.

This is the door and frame I built out of teak and the PSA teak veneer. The door panel is the verneer.

I bought a 2x8 sheet of PSA backed teak veneer from veneersupplies.com for about $115. Quick shipping and it's worked well. I am refacing some doors and cabinets in my master head. You can also buy teak plywood from any plywood distributor but it's expensive. I think I paid $350 for a sheet of 1/2 inch several years ago and that didn't include shipping.

The shipping costs on sheets of any material is what makes it unaffordable. That is why I went with the teak veneer.

Here are some photos of the doors I need to match. I am thinking I'll order the veneer and attach it to a piece of plywood.

Thanks for all the help.
