I live aboard a 44 ft twin engine Chung. Wah power boat. 3208 cats. I'm doing preliminary research whether I can make the voyage from Key West to Guatemala. Has anyone here made this trip?thoughts?

Following. The run from St Pete to Rio Dulce is on my radar. Although Key West is closest fuel departure to Isla Mujeres, it's also right into teeth of gulf stream. Possible to catch a counter current, but puts you in Cuban waters. In my opinion, better to depart from Naples or Ft Myers area and angle slightly north.

Attached is right now from Windy. FastSea app has decent trip planning tools that include currents.

I can’t provide any help, just a past visit many years ago.

Spent a week there on an oil tanker in 85’. Nice people, lots to see. Drank Vodka with a Czech crew on their cargo ship in the main port which was loaded by hand, sack by sack, of sugar. Things are simpler there, but they were happy.

Keep us posted if you end up going.
