Has anyone got a source for the 2000+ vintage VDO 4 1/2” multi gauge. I can’t find them anywhere. Thanks in advance.

If yours is not working, there are a lot of shops that specialize in VDO gauge repair. I had 2 gauges rebuilt that were from 1987. Try Google to source a place.

Lauderdale Speedo programmed my VDO tachs for me. Not sure if they rebuild gauges or not but would be worth a call to see. They did good work for me.

VDO replacement

The multi gauge is not made anymore. Lauderdale Speedometer rebuilt mine and changed the glass too.

This is an old thread I know, but I'm still using the old VDO multigauges too, vintage ('96). I've heard of Lauderdale Speedo in the past (my dad is a boat guy in Stuart, FL), but I was looking for confirmation they can re-do these. My port volt meter is squirrely (have to whack the gauge to get it to read right) and now the fuel gauge is jumpy on the starboard side. Checked all connections. Good to know they can handle these. I just don't want to spend a lot of time and tech hassle to modernize and have to replace oil, fuel, temp and volt sending units and maybe re-cable everything with new connectors. The current gauges worked for nearly 30 years so I only need another 25 and I'm out.

Anyway, thanks for this thread, short as it is. Very helpful. I'll pull them and mail them off when they pull the boat.

So I have these gauges as well in my 99 Pilot 30- what's the issue with replacing them from other multi gauge manufacturers?

Thanks

New (different) gauges will likely require new sending units, new connectors, may not fit in the dash cutouts like the current gauges, may mount differently, and might require new wiring. New ones would likely be better and more accurate, but I'd like to avoid all the upgrade complications if I can.

My "analog" gauges are really digital that run off the SmartCraft CANbus network. They have to match closely or they won't work.

Lauderdale Speedometer & Compass did my gauges last year. Very pleased with their work. A lot less hassle and expense than trying to replace with new gauges.

I sent an inquiry to Lauderdale Speedometer. They set up an online account for me and replied with a few hours. Said they repair and overhaul those older VDO gauges all the time and would be happy to handle mine, so I'll pull them and ship them off as soon as the marina pulls the boat for the season.

They rebuilt mine from 2000. standard fee and they check everything. Great guys!

Just had them send me new lenses to replace a couple of cracked ones

Thanks mine seem to be working fine now- I was mildly interested in perhaps one day changing them which was the basis for my original question. I'll keep the name of the vendor, thanks, in case of need.
