Here's the story...
Here in the Matanuska Susitna Bourough of Alaska we have traditionally been a bedroom community for Anchorage.
To drive from my house for example to Anchorage for work or shopping used to take around 2 hours.
The ferry was to supply transportation accross an inlet that we have to drive around to reduce commute time to Anchorage.
That was years ago...
Now in 2013 my area called "the valley" has grown up. We have a Lowes, Home depot, Fred Meyer, Target, well you get the isdea, we have stores galore. With those stores have come an overal strengthing of our local job economy which means there are actually some jobs in the area.
We also have a situation where the ferry wasn't that great of an idea anyway as it was still an hours drive to the ferry terminal.
Add that to some other issues and you get it, no use for the ferry anymore. Its brand new never been used.
gotta love the government for providing too little, too late, and too expensive... Welcome to Alaska!
