“Marine Science at its Best – the Hakai Institute and Tula Foundation – May 26 at 7 p.m. PDT
Boaters who ply the waters of Northern British Columbia may be familiar with the beautiful beaches near Pruth Bay, home to the Hakai Institute ecological observatory, and the Institute’s sister site at Heriot Bay on Quadra Island. Boaters who have used the complimentary dinghy dock at Pruth Bay and hiked the trails have long appreciated the WiFi connection from the Institute for important weather updates. What boaters might not know is the extensive research conducted by the Hakai Institute under the umbrella of the Tula Foundation. Did you know that Hakai works together with scientists at Friday Harbor Marine Labs on San Juan Island; works in conjunction with Canadian and U.S. universities; and government agencies? Trans-boundary work has expanded greatly now that the United Nations Ocean Decade (2021-30) has begun. The UN has asked the Tula Foundation to organize the “Regional Collaborative Center” for the Northeast Pacific, covering the extensive area from Baja California to the Aleutian Islands! Eric Peterson, Director of the Tula Foundation, will be sharing information about the Foundation and its important scientific research on “Waggoner Webcasts Live” on May 26 at 7 p.m. PDT. Learn about the latest scientific research and be in the know for your next visit to one of their site locations.”
