Who is what, and how and why ?

I have noted that there are at least six titles associated with members on their avatar. Newbie, Guru, Veteran Member, Senior Member, Master and Commander and of course site monitor.

How are these designations assigned? Just curious.

They are based on number of posts and change automatically. At one point(not sure if we still do), we(moderators) had the ability to customize them. I think that was on the old software. There were a few members that requested a custom name and I granted it to them. Those names carried over onto the new software. You'll notice RTF is "Enigma". There is also a "Curmudgeon" out there...can't remember who. There is also a "Hospitality Officer"....but that is about it for custom names. I think Master and Commander was custom also.
