Exactly what the title asks.

If we seal the teak before painting, will masking tape stick to it so we can mask it off when we're ready to paint?

I would rather run the risk of messing up the sealer and having to re-apply than messing up new paint trying to tape it off to seal the teak after we paint...

Seal the teak with what exactly?

Teak sealer - like Starbrite Teak Sealer

My understanding is that there are four ways to deal with teak: Varnish, Oil, Sealer, or leave it alone.

The Admiral doesn't like the "leave it alone" idea. I've done the varnish thing and hate it - would like to try sealer before I try oil.

Note this is NOT decking - it's exterior trim.

We used Semco sealer on the teak on our last boat. Extremely easy to apply.

Will masking tape stick to it once it's dry?

I mean - I suppose I could go ahead and buy it and test a piece of old teak that's laying around the yard. If we're going to use it anyway, the only question is, can we do it before we paint?

Yeah - never mind :D

Not sure but I think it would. I don’t think I ever tried it.

The P.O. used Semco on the aft deck and swim platform on my current boat and I’ve continued the practice. I’ve been very pleased with it.

I have tried all of it and none of it works :(
