    Stern Tie rope length?

I’ve reviewed previous posts related to stern tie methods but would be interested in suggestions for the amount of rope that would cover most situation in the mid coast / desolation sound area. I currently have a reel of 320’ of 1/2” poly. I’m considering replacing it with more of 3/8”. The boat...

    Dem o Teak sealer question

I’m planning to use Semco natural on teak cabin top handrails as an alternative to varnish. Does Semco stain gel coat? It will be very difficult to cover all surfaces of the rails without getting some on the cabin top even if I mask off. Is this a concern?

    Electronics advice?

I’m modernizing a late 80’s Nordic Tug that cruises in the inside waters of BC. The boat came to me with a Cybernet Depth Finder that works most of the time but does not provide me with the level of confidence that I need. So I’m looking for suggestions on a new system. I’ll probably leave the...

    Depth Sounder Question(s)

Thanks for the input. It appears that my best option may be to leave the current system as is for backup and to install a new sounder with a through-hull transducer. It appears that these have come a long way in the last number of years. I mainly use the sounder for close-quarter navigation and...

    Depth Sounder Question(s)

I am working on a late 80's Nordic Tug that came to me with a Cybernet CDF-500 Marine Depth Finder. I can't find any information on these units so assume that they are no longer made. The attached pics show the inside of the transducer and the transducer plug. While the sounder works reasonably...

    Alternative to varnish

Great info to my question. As with everything boating there seem to be many "best" solutions. For my application - teak handrails and cabin doors I'm going to try stripping and coating with Semco Sealer. A question for the Semco users: Can a varnish be applied over a Semo finish without stripping?

    Alternative to varnish

The boat is in Comox BC not far from you and also a 26. I have redone the pilot house doors with Epifanes and it has held up well. I’ll be doing the cabine doors soon. My main concern are the grab rails. I would like a low maintenance costing and am not interested in gloss for those. What do you...

    Alternative to varnish

Looking for recommendations for an alternative to varnish for teak handrails on a Nordic Tug. They are difficult to fully sand and refinish with multiple coats of varnish so I'm exploring a strip and sand with an oil finish. I can live without a high gloss finish on these parts. What are your...

Nordic Tug 26 bilge pump question.

NT 26-120 but probably similar on other trawler hulls. I don’t currently have a problem but would like to get at the pump when needed. The pic on the left shows the rear of the bilge just in front of where the shaft tube exists (prop to the left). The large white hose on the left is the intake...

    Transducer question.

I posted recently asking for information on a Cybernet depth sounder. Not getting any responses on this and other forums suggests that they are either rare or have been off the market for some time. My question here is about the through hull transducer. The first pic shows the unit as it sits in...

    Cybernet CDF-500

Is anyone familiar with the Cybernet Marine Depth Finder? I have a number of questions but will wait as I understand that these not very common today. I have the CDF-500 that is probably from the late 80's early 90's.

    Shaft seal question

Would that mean that this type of packing material should not drip?

    Shaft seal question

Can someone explain the function of the water hose on this type of shaft seal? I understand the “packing” type of seal and its adjustment but don’t understand the reason for the water inlet in the shaft tunnel. The black hose connects to a dedicated through hull.
