That might actually be a viable option. I think I will build a simple jig to support the transmission a few inches off my work bench so I can be able to roll it and lock it in place upside down. With a fishing tool and a small camera, I might be able to get it out through the top plate.

Well, as some of you might remember, the dipstick fell into my transmission and retrieving it was not a success. I am not ready to remove the transmission to resolve this issue. Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated. (Engine FL 120; tranny Paragon)

Excellent. I remember seeing a large bolt on that side. Not sure what it was so I left it alone. You mention not to remove the bolt completely, what would happen if I do? Thanks for the help.

Gordy, when you say the left side, do you mean looking towards the front or the rear of the boat? I will go to the boat next weekend to reassess the situation and evaluate my options. Would love to find a solution that keeps me from removing the transmission!

To wrap this story up (sort of). I tried everything I could. I emptied the oil, removed the cover plate, removed the fill cap and the breather cap to give me as many access points as possible. A friend even lent me an inspection camera so I was able to get inside and see the part at the bottom...
