“Rigged for towing”
A small engine for traditional towing I’m think’in.
Rigged to “be towed” may fit better.
We were towed on our Nomad to Comox BC .. all went well. No special gear required.
Perhaps you mean towing an over sized dinghy.
One more point I’d like to discuss is oil flow at start-up and residual oil that is always there at shut-down.
Two stroke or four strike oil comes to rest at shut-down. So an oil film is left for start-up. I’ve never seen any info that shows more oil is left on engine parts at shut-down w low...
Post #12 by by OC Diver is really excellent IMO.
Lots of Beta comments. Good engines but British and expensive.
When I was facing the re-power issue I picked an industrial engine (Mitsubishi) for far less money and lots more choices on details like cooling system, oil filter options and...
MV looks to be higher tech and better because of it.

“ Modern viscosity improvers have come a long way both in terms of shear resistance and other improvements. Plus, base oils have improved and often have a higher viscosity index to start with, so for oils that don't have a...
So are “modern” single wt. oils. The W15x40 wt. oil is only different regarding viscosity. So it stands to reason the multi-vis oils have a benefit when MV oil can be an advantage. Cold temperatures or hot temperatures signify a need for over 30w during the coldest temps the engine will see in...
Cruise speed is not about rpm. It’s about engine load.
Relatively small rpm changes can result in relatively large changes in engine load. Too many variables boat to boat. Since most everybody's variables are different rpm comparisons are relatively meaningless. Using a percentage of rpm down...
Bull Duram tobaco.
Get it in a pouch and wet it a bit then w just a bit of pressure wipe the outside of the windshield. I did this in the 60’s in college w a 56 VW beetle. The windshield wiper motor failed. $20 was a bit of money then. Works quite well.
Jclays,
I suspect the name brand “Bruce” anchor is over rated.
When most of a group raves or bashes something it will generally promote most all others to fall in line w the popular opinion. Kind of like the bandwagon function.
My experience observing many variations in design among Claws...
I anchored for years w 13 to 18lb anchors.
I rode out several 50 knot gales on the PNW coast w/o draging and hand hauling or using an electric drum winch or capstan.
My boat was a 30’ Willard.
But to succeed w light anchors you need anchoring experience and a high fluke area is more than...
Gerg,
More than brand of anchor this probably is a sea bed problem.
The most variable and troublesome aspect of anchoring.
The CQR’s problem is mostly setting IMO. Most all anchors work quite well holding but several (or more) don’t set well. Watching Steve’s vids I’m mostly impressed w the...
I’ve been on here since 07 and posted may things many on here thought were obviously dubious .. to “I think you’re nuts.” This running waste oil in your main engine to me is unthinkable. But I’ve not needed to put much fuel in my 37hp boat. Me thinks may here have boats too big.
Another thing...
mncruiser,
Re your #1 post it seems your problem is setting. I’ve said on TF for many years setting is the most important aspect of anchor performance.
An old school Danforth w forged shank and flukes is excellent. You’d need to find one used tho and most Danforth anchors used are the cheaper...
I’ve mentioned before that as I worked in a diesel-electric powerhouse in Alaska where the lube oil for generator engines was recycled w a big re-refiner that used high pressure and heat to process the used oil from oil changes. The biggest engine being a 1440hp Enterprise 16x20 in-line 8...
