Just get some 10-12g crimps with larger rings, I know they are available in 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8.
Don't try to use an 8g lug on a 10g wire, not going to be secure.
I have a liability only policy from Progressive for a half mil. But I also have previous boats and motorcycles with them. Pretty cheap ~ $500/yr.
Previous biggest boat was a 21' ChrisCraft with a Johnson 150.
Didn't even know how to start the engines when I bought it, but I do know now - :)...
All (both) have been replaced with cigarette sockets with flaps. All rewired with proper 10A fuses and 14g with good crimps.
Yeah, the one in the forward head was way worse than the one aft with proper wires, just no fuses.
I always check voltage before proceeding, I've been poked a few times...
I agree. Plan on spending a month or 2 doing sea trials, changing impellers, oil, filters, verifying systems, learning how the vessel handles.
As my captain taught, "if you don't know when it was last serviced, the time is now"
I agree, private sale, cash is good. Cash is preferred as bogus cashier's checks are common. No checks por favor.
But a broker is a different story. They like wires.
I don't keep my savings in a bank either. It's in stocks and bonds at the broker. If I have a big buy coming up I will instruct my broker to sell and deposit into my bank account so I can buy cars and boats as needed.
But seriously? The big bag of Benji's don't work anymore. Yeah, each bill...
Me thinks that you will soon be on a visit to the bank, answer a lot of questions re the source of the cash and then they will run it all through their counter/anti counterfeit machines and hand you a deposit slip. Probably advise you about a "verification hold" of some length.
Then you will...
The forward head socket still had the cap on it. The wires however were bad...really bad;
Looks like radio shack 18g with poorly crimped hooks. Wires slid in the crimps and the whole is badly corroded not to mention the screws were loose. Accident waiting to happen.
Now fixed with new 14g...
But it just begs to ponder eh? What would be good in the head that needed a lot of amps?
Hair dryer, space heater, towel warmer? Hot shaving lather dispenser?
It is a "bayonet style" base. But at waist height for a light bulb? And super heavy duty? The 2 tabs are .045" thick solid copper and you could run 30 amps through them no problem.
I dunno. It has always looked the way it does now, only screwed into the cabinet below the sink. Have never seen anything like it before. Have to believe it is original to the boat and that is 46 years ago.
Todays project was replacing this rather heavy duty 12 volt socket in the aft cabin;
I googled it and found nothing. The 2 tabs that you can see are spring loaded and serious gauge. There was no cap on it and 10g wires on the back via screw terminals with rings. I have another in the fore...
Yeah, that's the way I found it...
Glad I hit the wires with a meter before proceeding - :)
The (2) 300 AH LiFePo4 batteries have a 200A UL approved BMS on each of them. I plan to use the same 250A fuses on each battery right on the post. They appear rated for 10000 A disconnect.
Thanks for the review.
It is a 3 KW unit but I have it set maxed at 2.5 KW. The AC in and out is 10g with a 10g green ground wire which is good for 30A. Yeah, the colors are DC style, but all the connections are good and solid and all grounds have been verified. GFCI has been verified.
Yesterday I really finished up the stereo. Replaced the front and aft cabin speakers too. New speaks are not as good as the saloon speaks but hey they cost $50/pair instead of $150/each. They do sound much better than the old ones vintage unknown. When I did the compare it was shrill as...
Yeah, just buy a new one...
Quarter amp fuse. Sounds like a bad design that needs a quarter amp fuse as a band-aid.
Yeah, get some more of those fuses - :)
Very nice tree slab indeed. Looks mondo strong and heavy.
Peter - you just departed the land of excellent (and inexpensive) Tequila, should have stocked up - :)
