    Canvas Stitching Question

Dave I have read great things about Tenara and similar threads. I was working down my inventory of Poly and decided to sell my complete sewing shop. I would have liked to try it but never did. I certainly will make it a point with the buyer as he is a long time family boated, has 2 boats & an RV...

Forum Update - We're back! Ask your questions here.

Janet... I recently tried to attach a PDF file to a post but was faced with an error msg that only picture files were allowed. Have we lost the ability to post PDF's? I went back to a very old post and found the same PDF file attached to the old thread but now find its no longer allowed??

    Canvas Stitching Question

Here is what I have done when replacing vinyl for myself & others... IMO opinion it is worth the extra time to have a professional looking job vs an inferior looking result. Vinyl Window Replacement Process By: Bacchus This is an alternate method to the Sailright Item # X-HT-102621 on Vinyl...

    Canvas Stitching Question

I started DIY canvas work with an old Singer but ran into problems with multi layers and expect you will have the same difficulty with clear vinyl. The issue isn't enough power to pierce the goods it that the feed is not uniform and results in N uneven stitches. Most pros and I believe Sailrite...

Waxed non skid with starbrite non skid wax and still slippery

Woody Wax for us. I apply sparingly, especially on areas I walk on regularly. Other non- skid areas that I seldom walk on I apply sparingly but just let dry w/o rinsing. Does a good job of releasing dirt & stains to keep non-skid cleaner w less scrubbing.

    Value of a Captain's Door?

On my SidePower it was a plug. & play addition. I did need a wiring harness to allow placement a little away from other electronics but rather easy. If it's a Sidezpower let me know as there was a trick that helped.

shipping company recommendatons from Wisconsin to upstate New York

Is it your experience or just not knowing orvtrusting the boat? I agree w Dave in that the trip is a fantastic one. You might consider spending a bit of time on the other end getting familiar and gaining confidence. Of course, it dependsnon whether you have the time available. If you want to...

    Value of a Captain's Door?

I'm with Ted... if single handing is a high priority a helm door will make it lots easier. You may need to prioritize your musts and rank your wants to decide where best to compromise to suit your style of cruising. My MS is a single but the prop tunnel cancels much of the prop walk. I do have B...

    Antifreeze removal

When draining my Yanmar AF I found a cheap Hbr Frt battery transfer pump that was super handy. https://www.harborfreight.com/battery-operated-liquid-transfer-pump-63847.html I could get a catch pan under the drain point(s) but no way to get it out when full to dump. The pump worked well to...

    Kohler 8E0ZD Fuel Leak

Jeff I'm with Doug... and would be looking at the the hose, fitting and lines/connections to the Injectors. Mirrors, paper towels sometimes help finding hidden leaks. Boroscope either self contained or phone/tablet accys are cheap these days. Harbor Frt & Amazon have choices.

    Crack in er hatch beam

I would use a SS T nut so that nothing/little projection to catch you or something else on... besides it will look cleaner & more professional. Most good hardware stores have a drawer section that has all kinds of specialty hardware... T nuts are rather common...SS slightly less so but should be...

    Dark blue liquid in bilge

If an oil it would be a surface sheen vs well mixed color change as this appears, at least in the photo. Toilet chemicals are rather deep color and that would be my first guess. Do you have an overboard discharge line with a valve that it could be a residual from long ago? The vertical PVC pipe...

I'm with Portage_Bay and NSM and others in that I'm a believer and supporter of all that America's Boating Club (aka USPS) has to offer. Join and take some courses. Many ABC clubs now include on the water sessions for some courses. The other benefit you gain in an instant network of fellow...

    Hello from Lake Ontario

Jeff Welcome aboard TF. The cruising area you mention is our "back yard" as well and is the reason we never got serious about doing the Great Loop... why would leave the beautiful, scenic, fresh water NE? The only valid reason in my book is to cruise 12 mos/year. We have done the TSW twice and...

If you would be having a yard do any / all repairs I would sit down with a competent yard and have them estimate repairs. Mainship Pilot II 30 salon floor replacement

I believe MS used PlasTeak / plywood composite panels. No idea if they did their own lamination or a supplier did the lamination. When I did my fwd cabin I didn't need the plywood and just adhered the cushion layer and then PlasTeak sheet goods and the match was perfect.
