I recently purchased my dream boat, a 2004 Symbol 45 Pilot House Trawler in SE Florida. THEN- reality set in.

I've never operated a 45 foot trawler and she has so many cool bells and whistles on her, I'm just not accomplished enough to feel comfortable at the helm. OOPS. So, she is back on the market with lots of cool extras for luxurious, live- aboard cruising.

Dot Calm is a single engine, multi thruster equipped Symbol 45 Pilot House built in 2003. She is “Ready to Go” after performing brilliantly on a recent sea trial for survey. She is a beautiful two cabin, two head Symbol designed by Jack Sarin to carry you in comfort with great performance characteristics. If you are looking for a very well cared for Trawler ,“Ready to Go”, you must see Dot Calm. She is based in Cocoa, FL.

Monk36, don't mean to pry too much, but is the sale of your boat driven more by economics instead of fear/discomfort with operating it? Everyone is a bit intimidated at first when jumping up in size a great amount. This is a condition that is very, very easy to get over with some professional training sessions.

Perhaps you and the family haven't had enough enjoyable experiences with her yet. Why don't you motor up here to Titusville and watch the next space launch up close and personal. Enjoy the gorgeous Florida winter weather that has started setting in finally.

Of course if portfolio/financial conditions have changed, then that's another story.

BTW, the head is really nice. Love the strong vertical grain patterns.

Monk 36, you didn`t buy the boat without a lot of thought, and it seems a good boat. To resell seems so drastic. Is there anything you can do to get to feel comfortable at the helm? Hiring a skipper for some training, to look over your shoulder, to coach,and help you gain confidence. Maybe other things changed which are none of our business, but to reverse a process which must have involved much thought and planning seems questionable.
Whatever you do,I hope it works out well for you.

Thanks for your comments . Bottom line- too damn much work. I just retired after working 50+ years and I want to shed responsibilities and expenses.
Ready to charter with a Captain and my family somewhere chill post Covid than deal with upkeep, insurance, slip, maintenance, etc. I have had many boats and I know I could have mastered the 45 as well...just don’t want to put the work into it. Someone else deserves her more than me...someone who knows seamanship and maintenance. I’m just an old TV anchor, DJ, and sales guy who wants to be lazy for once.

This yacht is located in the marina that surrounds my office building. Moonstruck was moored close by her for years. Dot Calm is in bristol condition. I have seen her being maintained by the previous owner. I do not know Monk36 and I no longer berth Moonstruck at this marina. Monk36 is making a wise decision that many others should have made sooner after realizing they wanted or needed to change plans. Too often owners wait longer than they should and have much regret. If you are looking for a great boat for a couple Dot Calm should be on your short list. She is definitely worth a serious look. If I was downsizing I would give her serious consideration. Someone please contact me if they have a nice 58' LRC they want to part with! The more I look at boats for sale the more I want to keep Moonstruck!

As I write you from my hammock in Central America, I totally understand and agree 100% =) As we evolve in life often times so too do our priorities, a 45 footer is a big nut every month and if you are not planning a tour, chartering is the way to go, both in terms of economics and convenience. Good luck with the sale, she's a beauty and I'm sure someone will snap her up and in the meantime, sit back and enjoy a nice old Flor de Caña splashed over the rocks and, might I recommend a good hammock as well. Thanks for the kind words about Dot Calm. The previous owner who recently passed won my respect without ever meeting him. He kept the boat, then named B&B, in impeccable condition and could dock her with no crew or marina staff.
