That was how I was understanding the articles. Did I read it wrong, or, are the articles wrong?

Aha! So, at sunrise you need to look at the west and not in the east, and it needs to be a deep fiery red, not just red. And, when setting you need to look to the east (normal red is fine). Hmmm.... probably only works 50% of the time anyway as FlyWrite pointed out. Just like normal weather...

Thanks Woodsong! It is indeed a 48' Offshore. We spent over 6 months intensely searching for a trawler, or a trawler type boat in the SF Bay Area. However, there are virtually no true trawlers in the area (except maybe Mark Pierce's). We loved this by far more than any others we saw and probably...

Marin, you are correct on both counts - It is Princess Louisa Inlet, and the boat is a converted 1952 seiner, the Cape Ross. The pictures don't do it justice, as its a beautiful, beautiful boat. And, the people on it were extremely nice. You can find more info on it at capeross.com I've...

    USCG Boater Incident Report

OK, am I so naive that this is obviously a Halloween joke by a very good writer, or did it really happen? If it really happened, anyone know the outcome?

Yes he does. He uses it as a door stop. Don't know which door for sure, but I thinks it's his garage door.

    Another use for Bruce Anchors

Collecting boulders for landscaping! Actually, this situation was quite challenging for a newbie. The darn thing fit in there nicely and would barely budge. Looked like a baseball glove with an oversized ball in it. And it was bigger and heavier than it looks in the picture (55kg anchor)...

    Washington State Visit Permit

I have my documented boat in Washington for the summer and am aware that a permit is needed if it's to stay in Washington state for 60 days or more. This "visit permit" can also be renewed for an additional 60 days for a maximum visit time of 120 days. After that, it is my understanding...

    PNW Internet Cards

Does anyone have experience with either AT&T or Verizon laptop internet cards in the San Juans? If, so do they work well? And, do you have a feel for which one may work better than the other in that area? Or, is there another company that I don't know about that should be considered...

    Do you Kayak? opinions wanted..

I have 2 of the Hobie Outback models. They're great, especially for fishing as you can go hands free with their Mirage Drive. You can also paddle if you want to, and even sail (slow though) if that's your thing. May be a little on the heavy side though.

    Stabilized Binoculars

I'm thinking about buying a pair of stabilized binoculars for the Admiral. Anybody have any experience with these? If so, what are your likes and dislikes? In your opinion, are they worth the extra cost? And, someone told me that the battery life is pathetic. Do you agree? Thank you.

Flybridge Enclosure - Sunbrella vs Vinyl

Hmm... he told me that the price was about the same for both, so I didn't consider that. If vinyl is less expensive and he's not telling me, then maybe I should look elsewhere. Any other opinions?

Flybridge Enclosure - Sunbrella vs Vinyl

The canvas guy said that there were several types of sumbrella fabrics and several types of vinyl fabrics, but that the characteristics were basically the same for each individual type. He told me that Sunbrella would be water proof for the first year and then would need to be cleaned and...
