Thank you. And yes, I get the legacy Kathryn B carries and hope I am up to the challenge. The Bailards are a classy family and their roots in Santa Barbara go back many generations and indeed the family represents the best side of this community. I've owned wooden boats before and appreciate...

two ways I know of 1) go on the city waiting list. Takes decades. 2) more commonly you buy the leasing rights to a slip from a priv party. A 28' slip might cost around 30k-- depending on how badly the seller needs money or the buyer wants the slip. You won't own the slip, break the rules to...

    Whale Flipper manual galley faucets...

apparently aren't that great despite their storied past. I have one and like so many, it leaks from the pump handle. Took it to local plumbing supply and we futzed around with o-rings and other gimmicks and it still leaks. A rebuild kit is half the price of new unit and there are reports that...

    Canvas cleaning

How about machine washing? These tips sound like hand washing techniques. I have a sail cover looking yucky.

only 50 gallons of dsl and 50 of water. She was made for the Channel islands. 28 hp volvo dsl burns about a liter per hour at 7 knots. Less if sail is up. Holding tank is small. 5 gallons or so. No genset. In fact not even wired for shorepower. I will keep her that way. Solar cells keep her two...

    1) Does look like particle board. No doubt forms. You can see the is a clamp in the first form to conform the frame presumably and cleat on other forms for probably the same reason. I see no sign of them below the deck now. 2) She extremely dry, the enclosed picture of the aft deck shows some...

Sadly he passed. I purchased the boat from his sons who are also fine gentlemen. He actually pulled the lines from an original turn of the century Monterey he was smitten by in Ventura Boatyard. I told my boatbuilder friend of this fact and he said that alone was indication of a high level of...

It's technically a composite. Port Orford Cedar covered with glass and System 3. Built in 1996. Bilge is bone dry. Surveyor loved it. That sail is more for steadying and increasing fuel economy. I could be a take-me-hope option I guess. It'll due 2 knots under sail give or take. Allegedly.

Very spartan but efficient. V berth forward with chem head. Wheelhouse all business. Engine very accessible. Could probably remove it in an hour or two. Here are the build pics that convinced me to buy. Composite hull glass (system 3) over Port Orford Cedar. Showed the pics to a yacht...

Budget boater desperately seeking nav software

Opencpn is indeed impressive. Powerful and seems very stable. That's the problem though, I'm in a 29' Monterey trawler. I'm in to simplicity. I found myself drilling deep into Opencpn. Many folders, subfolders, and submenus, and spending a lot of time looking at tutorial videos. With all that...

Wow. Navionics won't overlay the AIS feature of the stand horizon gh2200? deal killer.

Budget boater desperately seeking nav software

I want to cruise the channel islands and need a user friendly software solution. My idea is pair the onboard gps and AIS receiver from a Standard Horizon 2200 VHF mated to either a laptop or tablet. My steering station is enclosed from weather. -What nav software is considered the most user...

    Old ideal windlass testing

I've got an older heavy bronze unit. it powers up on the bench. is the best way to test just to bolt her down and try yanking up an anchor? I also need one of the solenoid thingees. Where do I order those? Do regular auto parts place have them? What is the proper name?

I'm interested in this boat. I want to use it for cruising channel islands off California and maybe bring her down to Mexico. 29' long x 9.5' beam, 10,000 lbs, solid hull, 30 hp diesel. Runs like a boss. Think she can handle coastal cruising in the Channel Isles and baja? Interested in...

California chart guide from 80's and 90's.

I might get that one but it's not the one I was thinking of-- it had fishing sites, dive sites, all kinds of stuff.

California chart guide from 80's and 90's.

Once upon a time there was a nice chart collection for the southern california that gave a lot of info, compass headings, nm, dive sites, anchorages etc. Any recall this handy guide? it was relatively large, bigger than a book and had about 40 pages. Love to order one if they're still around.

Offer accepted on 29' trawler, Windlass Question

It's just a simple fishing trawler. 28hp diesel, non electronic motor, so that being the case, I don't see how taxing the batteries would shut me down. I will try and get some specifics from Schaffer Marine on Monday. I'm guessing I have a 50 amp alternator. Or does that sound too generous for...
