Can I charge and invert simultaneously?

It works fine. That is how you make toast while the engine is running!

    Is Autopilot Necessary In PNW?

Get One! An autopilot eliminates the tedium of steering a course so you can enjoy the view and look out for logs. Plus, when connected to your navigation software, it will minimize cross-track error. That is important in the currents of the PNW!

    Tough Marine Surveyor Anacordes WA

I highly recommend Matt Harris: https://marineconsultantsinc.com/ He is widely regarded as tough and thorough and the guy you want on your side if you are buying a boat.

Starlink Bypass Mode for 3rd Party Router (e.g. Pepwave)

SteveK. Yes, I am using that. I bought an extra-beefy DC-DC converter on AliExpress. So far all is working splendidly. All of this stuff is discussed at great length on the 'Starlink on Boats" Facebook group, which is a very good source.

Starlink Bypass Mode for 3rd Party Router (e.g. Pepwave)

If you don't want to cut cables, this pair of devices works like a charm: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BYJTHX4P/ https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BX74T2T5/ You will get power over the stock Starlink Cable and an ethernet connector without the starlink adapter.

    Wanted: Garmin GHC10 Remote

I have a GHC-10, which is a fine piece of gear, but I find it fairly outrageous that it is now "not supported" at all by Garmin. Furuno supports its old stuff and I think that is a very good reason not to buy Furuno electronics instead of Garmin. Anyway, I suggest you put a search in ebay that...

Diesel tank - non removal repair option?

Sometimes they do rust from the top, such as when water leaks past the fill. In my case the problem was condensation and bugs in the fuel, so it was leaking from the inside and the bottom of the tank.

Diesel tank - non removal repair option?

There were two tanks (one on each side). About 160 Gallons each. The final bill, which was about 2K over the estimate, was about 7K. I don't think the job took longer than a week, although my memory is hazy on this. It looks like the business has been absorbed by a bigger one...

Diesel tank - non removal repair option?

I see you are in the Seattle area. I had my leaky tanks repaired by Felix Marine Industries. They come to your boat, pump out the fuel, cut enough access holes to get to each part of the tank and spread around some epoxy goo. It is definitely not cheap, but it beats the alternative. So far...

Washington State Boat Taxes Could Double

The numbers on fuel taxes by state: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_taxes_in_the_United_States Washington is high, but by no means the highest.

Washington State Boat Taxes Could Double

On the other hand, Washington State residents pay no income tax, and a sales tax that is in line with other states ~10%. Relative to New York and California, we are very under-taxed and what taxes we have are severely regressive.

    Looking to improve internet connection

The best source of information on mobile internet is here: https://www.rvmobileinternet.com/ They actually test equipment, side by side, and their explanatory articles are first-rate. They have comparisons of cell phone plans and everything you need to know for your RV or boat. Some of the...

Sea Tow moving boats out of Canada to Washington

If you are an American and you want work done by a B.C. yard, it is fairly easy. The yard obtains permission from the B.C. customs people and gets a special import permit. The yard people come down with a boat and some of them run your boat up and the others bring back the chase boat. To get...

    Help picking an auto pilot

I have both a Comnav and a Garmin autopilot in my boat. The Garmin is just simply much better. It requires no adjustment or tuning. It maintains a nav course with cross track error on the order of ten or so feet. It has the marvelous "dodge" feature that lets you grab the wheel to take...

    Fresh water anchorage PNW?

If you want to go to Andrews bay on a weekend, just wait for crappy weather, which seems to appear with some regularity on weekends. I can see it from my house and the crowds are totally weather dependent. If it rains, it will be empty!

    Canada to U.S. boarder crossings

The reciprocal is not true. In the link you cited says explicitly: The permission to fly isn't reciprocal: Canada prohibits U.S. visitors from entering the country via all modes of transport — including by plane. Unfortunately, except for newly-exempted, immediate family members, the border...

mooring freash water vs salt water

Don't forget the bridge~ Nobody has mentioned the railroad bridge at Harbor Island. I moored for a while at on the south side of the island and I remember once waiting at least an hour for the bridge tender to open it. Aside from the narrow fairways and the greater expense, Elliot Bay is a...

Fuel Flow Monitoring Equipment - Why So Expensive?

The major reason they are so expensive for diesel engines is because they have to be extremely accurate. You are not just measuring flow in one direction, you are measuring it in two directions and subtracting that to get the number in which you are interested. For engines like Detroits, where...

    Bilge water

I have not tried this technique myself, but it is rumored to work. The idea is to get positive air pressure in the cabin by closing all doors and hatches and blowing air from the exhaust side of a shop vac. To do this you need to make a plywood piece to fit in one opening or another. Then...

    Barkley Sound in Fogust

Hi Richard: It can get foggy at any time (certainly in July). It will be clearer inside than out and when the wind comes up in the afternoon the fog usually disappears. The fishing inside is better in August! I am leaving soon and staying through the first couple weeks of August. I...

    Simrad vs Furuno

Furuno has terrific support Several years ago, I managed to destroy the expensive antenna on a Furuno differential GPS for no reason other than my own stupidity. I sent it back to the service center, telling them it was my problem, not theirs and asked if I could purchase a replacement. They...

    Which LPG three-burner range?

Dickenson - no doubt! I had a Force 10 four burner. I hated it with a passion. The largest burner had no heat, the smaller burners were laughably wimpy. Plus, the spacing on the burners were so close that you could only use two at a time anyway. If you are buying a Force 10 (don't) get a...
