    Plug the hole

If the leak is in the transom, the pressure might be greatly reduced. Maybe by planing or semi-planing, you could get the leak out of the water, depending where it is.

    Plug the hole

Six feet under water would be a differential pressure on the hull of about 3psi, no?

Look at 3M Crystalline(?). Might have even better numbers.

    Plagiarism on ActiveCaptain

Does the "fair use" doctrine allow students to make limited copies of another's work for educational purposes? Yes (although without attribution, still plagiarism (which is an ethical problem, not a legal one)). Does the "fair use" doctrine allow a commercial enterprise to copy a competitor's...

Median, average, doesn't matter. That bunch crashed their boats early on and don't post to AC.

    Plagiarism on ActiveCaptain

Attribution fixes plagiarism, but not copyright infringement (if either is happening).

    Copper Tubing size

The nominal size of copper tubing is neither the OD nor the ID (that would be too easy). There are tables online.

    Anti-fouling Adhesive Film

Anybody have any familiarity with this product? Apparently an adhesive film coated with micro-fibers that resist growth. Claims no increase in drag. In this 2013 article, the price was 40€/m2. Not clear if that included application. The test patch in the article is impressive. Micanti...

    Stainless handrail repair

Welds are often stronger than the base metal. I would be a little concerned that it failed in this manner. The photo is not clear, but I don't see much weld there. Obviously, you wouldn't want another failure like this potentially tossing someone into the drink, or onto a pier.

    Marina Reservations

Crowd-sourced sites (Tripadvisor, ActiveCaptain, etc.) and other internet resource sites (Kayak, hotels.com, Amazon, etc.) have certainly wrecked the business models of many of the traditional providers (remember Circuit City? My neighbor WAS a travel agent. I suppose Fodor's hates...

    Solar Panels and Shadows...

I think the micro-inverter systems are typically for grid-tied houses, but Enphase has a complete system with micro-inverters on the panels (if 10% of the array is shaded, you get 90% output), and LiFePO4 batteries with micro-inverters on them, as well. I'm trying to learn whether it will work...

    Solar Panels and Shadows...

Right now my design has an arch over the top of the solar farm, so some panels will always be shaded. Relocating the arch may be impractical, so I'm trying to learn about these micro-inverter systems that may solve the problem.

    Solar Panels and Shadows...

Here are three sites that discuss potential damage to solar panels from shading, and strategies to deal with shading. One strategy is to use "bypass diodes," which is what your link used. Apparently some panels have bypass diodes pre-installed, but output is still sharply reduced by shading...

    Solar Panels and Shadows...

I have read that when a solar panel is shaded, it will automatically reduce its output by 50% to "protect itself." I don't pretend to understand this, but it is consistent with the results in the video. The video also indicates that if more than one panel is shaded, output may be almost...

Using household plumbing on a boat

Well, I won't know for sure until the OP installs some Flushmates, and reports. But I must caution you about seeking advice from me, about anything. I'm certainly going to leave advice about marine toilets to Peggie (whose name I have been spelling wrong, apologies).

Would like to know if private trawlers can go back and forth between the US and Cuba

In my professional life, I have to deal with the federal government. That has taught me that, in my personal life, I must never, ever, ever run afoul of that bureaucracy. Life is too short. How likely is trouble for illegally traveling to Cuba? For me, the answer is "greater than zero."...

Would like to know if private trawlers can go back and forth between the US and Cuba

It will be legal for US tourists soon enough. In the meantime, you take a chance of being made an example of, either by the Cubans or on your return, if some bruhaha erupts with Cuba while you're there.

Using household plumbing on a boat

A Raritan Marine Elegance it will probably be, if I give up on household units. Are you familiar with the Headhunter Bravo toilet? Uses some different technology that they don't quite explain, but they have a video of it flushing/macerating panty hose and keys.

Ahhh, thanks. Worth thinking about. Could pumping out, for instance, ever run amuck and force sewage back up through the toilet.
