    Another autopilot thread

Impress your friends with something that looks like it came out of a submarine: a Cetec Benmar Course Keeper 210! Ours is still going strong after 38 years. No pesky MFD integration to worry about either.

    AIS receiver via VHF

We used a Raymarine AIS700 transceiver that has an integrated splitter for several years and had no issues. This includes very busy BC ferry traffic zones and Pacific offshore encounters with various size boats. No problems. Don't overanalyze it, you'll be fine with a quality splitter.

    New Electric Outboard Announced

I had a Torqueedo 1103 which claims a 3 HP equivalency. I now have a vintage 3HP Johnson two-stroke. I can say that - without doubt - the Johnson seems WAY more powerful in real world conditions (like leaving a beach through a surf break). The Torqueedo hole shot, in particular, is terrible...

    any Sunnfjord owners out there?

We recently bought our 42 and are now cruising the Sea of Cortez. Custom built in 1984. Very interesting boat... has a factory roll top desk! :)

Vessel Monitoring? What do you do?

Instead of competing with the established players in the subscription space, consider changing the game to an open architecture along the lines of SignalK. You could create low cost, high quality components that create a data stream for whatever devices want to consume it. You could also create...

Will my autopilot follow waypoints from Navionics on my iPad?

Notwithstanding some technical Apple iPad issue, I'd assume Garmin with have to be dragged kicking and screaming into adding more advanced features to the Navionics iPad app. They're trying to maintain a reason for people to buy low end MFDs and missing features is certainly a compelling reason.

    Thoughts on inverters

We spend a lot of time on the hook and don't like running the generator so we recently upgraded the house bank and inverter/charger. The house batteries are SOK marine LFP and the inverter/charger is the Victron Multiplus 3k. I went with the Victron because it can charge at 120 amps. This...

    Rogue wave kills passenger.

Can you imagine the despair of those left behind as Shackelton sailed off to get help? Stuck on a small, cold rocky island in the middle of nowhere. The hope and faith in your captain but your gut telling you how unlikely the chances of success. And yet he didn't lose a single crew member...
