    Buy Now???

But do you want to wait? Are you young and have time to be patient, or is your boating going to age limit out in a few years? You can lose a lot of fun time waiting, but maybe can get a better boat by waiting. If you don't need the money for all you're other expenses, what good is it sitting in...

    Buy Now???

But if you're looking for a very specific boat and they are in limited supply, you don't have a lot of choice. Even if the market relaxes, no guarantee your heart throb won't have suitors. Good luck Thanks! Yes I believe you are correct on this!

    Buy Now???

I am actually to afraid to play my cards out of paranoia of someone reading this and says to themselves...I have money and never considered that boat - I should go look at one. Once I purchase I will post a picture!

    Buy Now???

Am I insane to be considering the purchase of a substantial boat in the economy we are in right now? Especially considering every pundit and bank president alike seems to be indicating a global recession. This past week marks the first time many of the worlds central banks (10 of them...

    Offer Letter

Searching for the right trawler for years and honing in...I wanted to ask the collective if having an Offer Letter written by an admiralty lawyer was worthwhile? Pros / Cons?

    Motorola RDV5100 Two Way radios

Shrew - This site never seems to disappoint! Your points are well taken and make sense. Thanks for the response!

    Motorola RDV5100 Two Way radios

Considering these radios are VHF, can they be hailed on a specific channel from your boats VHF? I received a set from a friend in the business for general husband to wife communication and got to thinking....It'd be kinda cool to use the boats tall antenna and higher power to reach the radio...

    Anchorage mishap

It did give me an excuse to buy a new tool, a cordless grinder. Just for this type situation. If I need to release the anchor in an emergency I can use the grinder to cut the chain. I can attach a fender to some small stuff and tie it to the bitter end of the chain. Then I can recover the...

    Are the stands mine?

I literally just sold my trailered boat this past weekend. And offered the 4 Brownell stands I had as an additional item for sale. Not exactly the same scenario but my opinion is they are NOT part of the deal. Offer him $100....New they are about $130/each.

Surboum - I’m on the SouthShore as well and looking to gain bigger boat cruising experience. Let me know if you need a deckhand.

Finance, Boats, Retirement how do you decide?

If one paying 4% interest on their boat loan, but can make 5% interest investing their money elsewhere, financially it makes sense to finance the boat. Any tax savings would then be icing on the cake! ....Unless of course the market tanks or your money invested elsewhere does not achieve 5%+...

Offshore Trawler Registration - Should you?

Looking for decision making direction/resources/experience/pros/cons on where to register (here in the US or elsewhere). I am about 18 mos out from a significant purchase and want to better understand why so many fly a non US flag. Most would say it is done for tax or liability or crew...

Very basic and stoopit questions about costs...

What about: Yearly insurance. Moorings/dockage while cruising. Approx yearly maintenance. Hauling, bottom paint etc. Jeff - You and I are on a similar path although I am spending a bit more on the boat part. Largest boat I have run is 30' and looking at 55. I have done a lot of research...

    Anyone For A Fleming!

In my research with Fleming I have learned that the F55 mold was changed with Hull number 136. So, it appears that you were on the tail end of the extended useful life of the first set. Molds, apperantly are a wearing tool which gets damaged along the way which may explain "why" they used...

    Anyone For A Fleming!

What were the "issues" suffered? I will be in the market in about 18 mos and this is my top choice. Cant afford new and likely looking at an '04~'07 based on my wallet and current prices. That said I am very curious of your early experience and what went wrong.

    Hurricane Plan

AS I near purchase of a new to me 50+ foot trawler I am finding insurance company's want to see your "Hurricane Plan". Ummmm stay out of its path? Batten down the hatches? I've never owned anything large or costly enough where this was an issue. Anybody willing to post/share what is...

    Anyone For A Fleming!

That's at Burr Yacht in MD. Some day I hope to call one my own! Love em. Shortcomings mentioned..... I can live with. Stand up engine room would be nice but in keeping with a low CG something had to give. Thankfully still limber enough I think I can work with it. Another 10 years maybe not...

    Trawler Identification

Dang - You guys are good. 2 for 2. Just looked up Pacific Seacraft and matched her to their Fast Trawler 38T on a Yachtworld listing.

    Trawler Identification

Anybody recognize the make/model of either of these? Saw them behind the Kona Kai resort in San Diego back when traveling was a thing. Loved both and still looking for our cruising boat but don't think I have ever seen either of these on the East coast. Beautiful!

    Do I have Issues?

I have a friend who was buying a 50' cat and could not get insurance coverage unless he hired a captain for the first year. Holy smokes - Hire a captain for the first year? I had always figured if an insurance company was anxious about the risk you would need only get a captains sign off on...
